Can I trademark an image?

Images can be filed in a trademark application. A trademark is generally a word, phrase, symbol, or design, or a combination of these elements, that identifies and distinguishes the source of one party’s goods from those of others. The image is first cleared with a comprehensive trademark search. The filed image would identify and distinguish the source of goods or services.  Protecting the images puts the public on notice of the registrant’s claim of ownership of the trademark, a legal presumption of ownership nationwide, and the exclusive right to use the image on or in connection with the goods and/or services listed in the registration.
